Green Gold Olive Oil Co, one more year, continues in the Flos Olei guide!

The “Flos Olei 2023, guide to the world of Extra Virgin”, is the most prestigious olive oil guide in the world. It is the means of dissemination and promotion of the best olive oil producers at an international level.

After participating since 2017, this is the sixth year that Green Gold Olive Oil Co participates in the Flos Olei Guide with its EVOO Oh! Limited edition. Early harvest, of the picual variety, thus obtaining a new recognition for their land, their D.O. and his way of making and understanding extra virgin olive oil.

The Flos Olei Guide collects the 500 best oils in the world through a scoring system. During each edition, more than 2000 oils choose to access this reference olive oil manual. This year the Guide has been produced in three bilingual versions in paper format (Italian-English, Italian-Chinese and Italian-Spanish) and in two App versions (World and Prime) for iPhone-iPad and Smartphone-Tablet.

The process of elaboration of our Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the result of a careful integral process that occupies us 12 months of the year; care, illusion and effort always preserving the ancient process and incorporating only that technology that allows us to maintain or improve it.

Thank you for this recognition!

Torrijas, the Easter dessert par excellence

The torrijas, the traditional dessert and the sweet star of Holy Week, is one of the most cooked and versioned recipe in history: from the typical ones with milk or wine, to the most modern ones with chocolate, custard and honey.

Easy and quick to cook, from GGOlive we leave you a simple recipe to enjoy this delicacy this weekend or whenever you feel like it 🙂

Ingredients for 4 people, approximately

  • 1 loaf of bread (from the same day or the day before)
  • 600 ml. milk (whole, semi-skimmed or skimmed)
  • 3 eggs
  • Cinnamon to sprinkle
  • cinnamon stick
  • 100 grams of sugar
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil Oh! Organic Early Harvest

Elaboration:

  1. Boil the milk with two cinnamon sticks and the sugar. While the milk is heating, cut the loaf of bread into slices about 2 cm. thick.
  2. When the milk reaches a boil, pour it into a deep plate where the slices of bread will later be soaked. Prepare another deep dish and beat the eggs.
  3. Heat a pan with the AVOE Oh! Organic Early Harvest over high heat so that the torrijas are made quickly and do not get smeared with oil. With the hot oil in the pan and the beaten egg prepared in another dish, dip the slices of bread in the milk dish, but not all at once, but one by one

  4. When they are soft, but without crumbling, take them one by one and coat them in the beaten egg, and from there, transfer them to the oil, fry them and brown them on both sides.
  5. Once toasted, place them on a plate on a kitchen paper to drain the rest of the oil, and sprinkle the cinnamon

Bon Appetite!

Olive oil and superstition

Today is Friday the 13th!

Considered a day of bad luck and superstition in most Anglo-Saxon cultures, we took the opportunity to learn more about one of the biggest superstitions related to oil. “Spilling oil brings bad luck,” our grandparents used to say, often performing strange forms of ex-conjuration and looking with regret at the stained napkin that, at that time, could not use the degreasing power of modern detergents.

Undoubtedly, many beliefs around olive oil have their origin in the important role it plays in religions and in its close relationship with the sacred. In Hebrew, Christ was called machiah (anointed) and, in the Christian liturgy, the use of olive oil in the sacraments plays a determining role.

Formerly, also the French kings were consecrated through an anointing with miraculous oil, which was said to have been brought by a dove to Saint Remigius, when he baptized Clovis.

And you, are you superstitious?

The “cure” of the month of May

Our Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the result of a careful comprehensive process that occupies us 12 months of the year. We put all the love, illusion and effort always preserving the ancient process and incorporating only that technology that allows us to maintain or improve it.

During the month of May we carry out the “cure”, or what is the same, the treatment of the plant cover of the tree, with products that help protect against pests and that provide food and amino acids, as well as clean the soil.

National nutrition day

Tomorrow, May 28, the National Nutrition Day is celebrated, an event that is intended to remind the population of the importance of acquiring healthy eating habits.

Both olive oils and fats are a key component in our diet, since they contribute to the exquisiteness of the diet. From a nutritional point of view, the high energy value of the olive oil must be highlighted, in addition to its contribution of essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D and E).

Traditional “salmorejo” recipe

The heat is coming and with it one of the freshest foods in our Mediterranean diet; the Salmorejo. A cold soup or thick cream that is eaten alone or accompanied by small pieces of boiled egg and iberian ham. It can be prepared by mashing the ingredients patiently in a mortar, or with the help of a blender or a kitchen robot. Although some people add extra ingredients to those we are going to list, the traditional recipe is made only with tomatoes, bread, salt, garlic and extra virgin olive oil. Let’s go there!

Ingredients for six people

  • 1kg of tomatoes
  • 200 gr of loaf bread
  • 1 clove garlic
  • Salt to taste
  • 150 ml of extra virgin olive oil Oh! Family Selection
  • To start, we wash and crush the tomatoes (no need to peel them)
    • In a bowl, place the bread and cover it with the crushed tomatoes, leaving it to soak for 10 minutes.

Bon Appetite!

In June, olive harvest is arising

If we talk about olive cultivation, June is a very interesting month for the development of the future olive fruit. Having had a remarkable fruit set, now is the time to balance the nutritional needs of the olive tree and provide all the energy necessary for the final fruit development. From now until  september, you have to water olive trees and eliminate the stems that grow on the trunks and that prevent the sap to the branches and fruits. Sometimes it is even necessary to re-fertilize the soil.

This year… we celebrate with you the pride of being unique. Of being different!

Surprise yourself with our olive oils! We have prepared a special edition to celebrate “gay pride day” with you; buy 2 500ml bottles of our best Early Harvest oil, recognized worldwide, and get 1 free 500ml bottle of the Family Selection.
